In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Before we had started shooting our film opening, we looked at a few other horror openings so we could have an idea of what most of them are like and their similarities and differences. These videos included 'The Conjuring', 'Insidious' and 'The Woman in Black'.
When we watched the opening to 'Insidious', we thought the music would go well with our product so we had downloaded the track and added it to our opening. What we liked about 'Insidious' was that the whole of the opening was in one shot but we had decided not to do that as we wanted to apply our editing skills by cropping out parts of shots we didn't need and it also wouldn't go as our opening was filmed in 2 different locations. At the end of the 'Insidious' opening, they shown the title on the screen with a strong sound effect sounding like a bunch of violins and we decided to use that sound in our opening for when the black figure was walking as it had a scary, mysterious feel to it.
The clip above was the soundtrack we used but we has to crop some parts out.
We had then looked at 'The Woman in Black' opening and that's where we had gotten the idea of our figure in black except it would be a man instead of a woman. The reason why we changed the gender to a male is because stereo typically, in most horror films, the man is known as the villain such as in 'Paranormal Activity - The Ghost Dimension', with the man being names Toby and also in the 1996 classic, 'Scream'.

We had then taken a look at 'The Conjuring' and we felt that it was a good opening for that sort of movie it is but because our movie is based more on a stalker and not possession, we felt that we couldn't get many ideas from it. However, there was one shot which was when it zoomed in slowly on the dolls face and we had gotten inspiration from that shot and decided it would look good for when the man was standing by the tree so then we found out how to zoom in on Adobe Premier Pro.
In all three of the horror films, we noticed that they used a gloomy, cloudy dark grey contrast colour for the background of most of their scenes so we decided that we would turn our brightness down in our scenes but mainly in the ones from the park, to give it a more eerie feel. However, we did use a more brighter atmosphere in the first couple of scenes at the train station as that's not where our 'horror' actually starts even though you could see the black figure in the distance in the scenes. We had only just started bringing in the music when the park scenes had come on because we didn't want to go straight into horror so instead the tension would be building up for the audience.

When it comes to camera shots, we mainly used close ups and mid close ups because you would be able to see the facial expressions of the victims and they create more emphasis. However, we did use a lot of other shots such as, low angle shots, eye level, long shots, tracking shots, establishing shots etc. The low angle shot shows domination and power which is what we used when filming a the man in black so it shows that he has more control over the two girls. We used long shots so the audience could know what the surroundings looked like and where they actually are but we had also used establishing shots which again, shown the audience where the scene was set. When we filmed the man standing by the tree whilst the shot zoomed in, we used an over the shoulder shot so that the audience could see what the character saw when she turned around and saw him so they are being put into the characters perspective which makes it easier for them to know what she's feeling like.
In a lot of horror films we have generally watched, we noticed that the majority of them introduce the title at the end of the opening whilst using a lot of sound effects. So, we decided to also use this. The font we used was sans serif with a thin, cloudy white outline as we thought it went well with our opening and it is used in some horror films so we thought it was be the most effective in terms of mystery.
