Main Task - Title/Lettering & Music Research

Title & Lettering
Our title for our main task is, 'What Lies Behind...'.  We had the title come up at the end of our film and we used a thin off-white outline with a black screen. The reason why we used an off-white colour is because it stands out well over the black screen so it's clear to see. The colour can also come across as a moudly grey colour as well. White connotes to pure and angelic which is completely different from what our opening is about as it is a horror film. That's why we changed the white to a bit darker so we can give it more of a darker feel as well as still being able to stand out on the black screen. The off-white colour can connot to dull and emotionless which kind of links to our opening as in a lot of the scenes we had made the shot darker in contrast and brightness so it has more of an eerie feel. Throughout our whole opening, we have used the same colour and same font.

Music
The music we have chosen to add into our film opening is the music from the 2010 horror, Insidious. During the first couple of scenes, which are at the train station, no music will be playing them except from a very faint sound at the beginning which goes in well as it sounds like background sounds, like wind blowing. We will also have a train sound effect when the shot of the train is passing the camera so it sounds louder. At the beginning, we will have no music because we will have our actresses speaking so we want to be able to hear them and we don't want to jump straight into the music. We feel, as a group, it would be better to bring the music in later as then it builds up the tension and it doesn't give anything away to quickly. When the park scene is introduced, the two girls acting in those scenes will be speaking but you won't be able to hear the dialogue as the music is covered over it.

The music we have chosen has a creepy and eerie feel to it. We added a very small piece of music at the beginning which you almost can't hear. Then after that, there is no music, apart from the train sound effect we had added in, and you will be able to hear our actresses having a conversation. It starts off at a constant sound and you can faintly hear violins in the background. Whenever we have a shot that 'pops' up, we will have a bang sound to create more effect to it. This makes the scene more scary and tense as you don't know what's going to happen. We have faded the music in at the beginning and at the scene when the man is walking towards the girls, we have cut a piece of the music out which fits in with that shot and that music is loud and very 'screechy'. Towards the end, we faded it out and fitted in another 'bang' sound for when the title pops up.
